The name "Iatria" is inspired by the ancient Greek concept of holistic health, where medicine was seen as a means of treating the whole body and mind. Derived from the word "Iatrieum," it reflects the idea of a place of healing—one that encompasses the spirit, body, and mind. "Iatria" also has deep roots in modern medicine, influencing terms such as "psychiatry" and "pediatrics." It’s a name that connects the past to the present, representing a place where healers and patients come together for mutual benefit, offering care and healing in its purest form.
But, How Do You Say it?
You’ll often hear Krissy making a long A sound with the emphasis on the second syllable:
eye-AY-tree-uh.
And that is correct!
Dr. Custis, however, emphasizes the “tree” part with a softer A sound:
eye-ah-TREE-uh.
And that’s correct too!
Some of the staff may even mix it up:
eye-ay-TREE-uh
ee-ah-tree-ah
i-tree-uh
And all of these are correct!
